Hi Everyone.

First I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!  We have some business and planning to do for the new year, and I am looking for some help.  Please contact me if you would like to be involved in meeting planning or committees.

First item of business is our member list.  Below is a list of all our members.  Please check to make sure your name is on the list as I need to submit to INS by the end of January.  If you are not on the list and would like to become a member, please send me an email and I will send you an application.

In an effort to keep costs low this year and considering the changes made by INS requiring you to also be a national member, yearly dues are reduced to just $10.00 per person.  Let me assure you, this is a bargain.  In 2012 we had the pleasure of some nationally recognized experts in Infusion Therapy speak including Lyn Hadaway and Kay Coulter, we had some fabulous dinners.  For those of you who missed it the Mill House Inn dinner sponsored by Alexion pharmaceuticals and featuring guest speaker Apurv Agrawal, MD was great!!  We also had some valuable facetime with INS director of marketing Jason Beal.

In addition, I have found a great outlet for personal and professional networking while starting this chapter and meeting some really fun and interesting people at our meetings over the last year.  Please encourage your friends and co-workers to come to a meeting and get involved.  We also had the pleasure of teaming up with our sister chapter the Penn Valley Chapter.  It has been very rewarding to meet and talk with Peg Boyle the president of this chapter.  They have a lot to offer with experience and knowledge.  I look forward to growing this relationship and partnering in future meetings and events.

Yearly dues are now being collected.  You may mail to me at the following address or bring to the first meeting.

Please mail dues to

Attention Hea Sook Koh (treasurer DVINS)

            152 N. Woodbine Ave.

            Langhorne, PA 19047

I am currently in the process or creating an INS library for our members to utilize for studying for the CRNI or just for research and reference materials.  I have had some suggestions by members for what might be helpful but any other suggestions would be great.  I am also looking for someone to be “Librarian” this person will be responsible for keeping, loaning, and tracking all DVINS library materials.  Library materials will be loaned to DVINS members who are up to date with dues only, and will be signed out for a limited time to help keep these materials available to all members.  More information on this will be given out at our first meeting.  Please email me if you are interested in the position of “Librarian”.

I am a little behind (the holidays kept me very busy) but I am in the process or organizing an IV Nurse Day meeting/celebration.  I am also starting to map out our winter and spring meetings.  Our members from the Cancer Treatment Centers of America are very interested in hosting a meeting at their facility (I haven’t forgotten about you) so this is something I would like to set up in the coming months.  If any of our members would like to suggest a speaker or meeting idea, please contact me.

The spring INS conference is coming up as is the March CRNI exam.  Good luck to anyone taking the exam and be sure to let me know when you pass J as we love to share good news.

All this information will also be posted on our blog at www.delawarevalleyins.blogspot.com .

Hi Everyone!

Our next meeting is fast approaching.  I have attached the invitation again to this email.  This dinner requires an rsvp due to limited seating, so please!!! Rsvp soon!!.  We only have a few rsvp right now and I don’t want anyone to miss this opportunity.  This is a really nice restaurant, so the food should be great.  Also, we have an interesting topic with a great speaker!  We even will have 2-3 of our favorite product reps attending with vendor tables.  Don’t miss this one!  Can’t wait to see everyone.

Congratulations to Althea Moore, one of our members, who successfully passed her CRNI exam this week!  Great job Althea.

If anyone else has any information they would like to share with the group, please email me.

INS has changed its rules a little with regard to membership.  The new rule is that anyone who is a member of a local chapter must also be National INS members.  If you are not already a national member, you may go here to get an applications

http://www.ins1.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageID=3358  You have until the end of October to do this.  There are lots of great benefits to becoming a member, including the Journal, and lots of free webinars etc. available online.

I finally got my scholarship money sorted out and have received a check for 2500.00 which I will be donating to our chapter.  I would like to form a small committee to organize the funds, which will be used to start an INS library which can be used by our members.  Also, we will use some for scholarships to aid with the cost of national membership etc.  If there are 1-2 people who would be interested in this committee, please contact me.

If you have been receiving these emails and are not yet members of this chapter, please email me and I will send you an application.  This is a great little group and it is a great way to network with your peers.  Membership is only $15.00 yearly.

Lastly, I have a few job postings I am passing along.

I am a Rheumatologist locally, and am looking for one to two infusion nurses.  One full, one part time.  I am solo practice within a Multispecialty group.  I have eight chairs, and a financial specialist who does all the infusion billing, VOB, precerts, etc.  Do you know anyone who is looking to be near the Royersford/Pottsown area? I am in need of a personable, dedicated, professional who is willing to work as part of a team.  We all try to help eachother to get the job done well and efficiently.

Thank you for your time.

Resoectfully,

Dr. Stacey Fitch, FACOI

Summertime!

Hi everyone,
So sorry there have been no posts lately.  Summer is in full swing and everyone has been so busy.  But a couple of quick updates.
  •  We had a successful last meeting with Lynn Hadaway, it was a pleasure to hear her speak.  (more on this when I post the minutes and pictures from the last meeting).  The food was good and it was nice to meet some new friends and catch up with some old :)
  • I am expecting the funds from my scholarship award to arrive soon, so the good news is we will have a small budget for our next meeting!  Also, some of the money will be used to build a lending library of INS publications for our members to utilize.
  • Our September/October meeting will be here before you know it, and we are currently in the planning process now.  We are looking into having some of our favorite vendors join us with display tables, and possibly a speaker or two.  Oh and we will most definitely have some kind of refreshments...
  • There has been some interest amongst members in setting up some study groups for the upcoming C.R.N.I. exam.  I would be happy to help facilitate this.  Please leave a comment or send me an email if you are interested.
  • INS has just released a position paper regarding the frequency of peripheral IV assessment, the link is below.
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer, and don't forget to sign up to follow the blog so that you will get all the latest information.
